Pine nut

Pine nut

(Brazilian Pine)

The stone pine prefers a cool to mild, sunny to semi-shady location in a subtropical climate. It requires regular watering, especially during dry periods, with the soil kept consistently moist but well-drained.

Ideally, the soil should be deep, rich in humus, well-drained, and have a slightly acidic pH of about 5.0 to 6.5. Waterlogging should be avoided as it impairs root growth.

Under optimal conditions, it begins to produce seeds after about 12 to 20 years, yielding the edible "pine nuts". The tree usually reaches a height of about 20 to 40 meters and develops a distinctive, umbrella-shaped crown.
