Yerba Mate

Yerba mate prefers a partially shaded to sunny, warm, and sheltered location. It is sensitive to frost and grows best in subtropical to mild-tropical climates.

The soil should be humus-rich, loose, and well-draining. A slightly acidic pH (approx. 5.0–6.5) is ideal. The plant requires consistent moisture, and waterlogging should be avoided.

The plant grows as an evergreen shrub or small tree, usually reaching 3 to 12 meters in height. It is primarily valued for its leaves, which are used to make the traditional mate beverage.
