Desert rose

The desert rose prefers a sunny, very warm, and dry location. It is extremely tolerant of heat and drought but very sensitive to frost.

The soil should be very well-drained, sandy to stony, and rather poor in nutrients. A neutral to slightly alkaline pH value between approximately 6.0 and 7.5 is ideal; waterlogging must be avoided at all costs.

The plant grows as a succulent shrub or small tree with a thickened trunk (caudex) and usually reaches 0.5 to 3 meters in height. It is primarily valued for its striking, decorative flowers.
