Miracle Berry
(Synsepalum dulcificum)
The miracle berry prefers a semi-shady, warm, and very sheltered location in a tropical to subtropical climate. It is sensitive to frost and grows best with high humidity and consistent warmth.
The soil should be humus-rich, loose, and well-drained. A distinctly acidic pH value between approximately 4.5 and 5.5 is ideal; regular moisture is needed, but waterlogging should be avoided.
The plant grows as a slow-growing shrub, usually reaching 1 to 2.5 meters in height. It typically bears its first fruits after about 3 to 5 years under good conditions; the fruit temporarily changes the taste from sour to sweet when eaten.
