Pigeonberry
(Duranta erecta)
The pigeonberry prefers a location that is in full sun to partial shade, warm, and sheltered, in a tropical to subtropical climate. It is sensitive to frost and usually only grows in pots in cooler regions.
The soil should be loose, humus-rich, and well-drained. A slightly acidic to neutral pH value between approximately 5.5 and 6.5 is ideal; regular moisture is preferred, but waterlogging should be avoided.
The plant grows as a dense shrub or small tree, usually reaching 1.5 to 4 meters in height. It produces small, yellow to orange berries, which are, however, poisonous and must not be consumed. It is primarily used as an ornamental plant for its violet-blue flowers and decorative fruits.
