Surinam cherry
(Eugenia uniflora)
The Surinam cherry prefers a sunny to partially shaded, warm and sheltered location in a tropical to subtropical climate. It is moderately frost-tolerant and can withstand short cold spells.
The soil should be humus-rich, loose, and well-draining. A slightly acidic to neutral pH value between approximately 5.5 and 6.5 is ideal; regular moisture is preferred, and waterlogging should be avoided.
The plant grows as a dense shrub or small tree, usually reaching 2 to 6 meters in height. It typically bears its first fruits after about 2 to 4 years under good conditions.
