Iris

Irises prefer a sunny to semi-shady location in a temperate climate. Many species are very hardy and thrive well in Central European conditions.

The soil should be loose, humus-rich to slightly loamy, and well-drained. A neutral to slightly alkaline pH value between approximately 6.0 and 7.5 is ideal; waterlogging is usually not well tolerated (exception: some swamp iris species).

The plant grows herbaceous from rhizomes or bulbs and reaches a height of about 20 cm to 1 meter depending on the species. It is primarily valued for its striking flowers.
