Screw Pine

The screw pine prefers a sunny to semi-shady, warm, and very sheltered location in a tropical to subtropical climate. It is sensitive to frost and requires high humidity.

The soil should be loose, sandy to humus-rich, and well-drained. A slightly acidic to neutral pH value between approximately 5.5 and 7.0 is ideal; regular moisture is tolerated, but waterlogging should be avoided.

The plant grows as a palm-like shrub or small tree, usually reaching 3 to 10 meters in height. It often forms edible, pineapple-like fruit clusters (depending on the species) after about 3 to 6 years under good conditions.
