Chocolate Pudding Fruit
(Black Sapote)
The chocolate pudding fruit, also known as black sapote, prefers a sunny to semi-shady, warm, and sheltered location in a tropical to subtropical climate. It is sensitive to frost and requires consistently high temperatures.
The soil should be deep, rich in humus, and well-drained. A slightly acidic to neutral pH value between approximately 5.5 and 7.0 is ideal; regular moisture is preferred, but waterlogging should be avoided.
The plant grows as an evergreen tree and usually reaches 6 to 12 meters in height. It typically bears its first fruits after about 4 to 6 years under good conditions.
