Pitangatuba
(Eugenia selloi)
The Pitangatuba prefers a sunny to semi-shady location in a warm, tropical to subtropical climate. It requires regular watering, with the soil remaining consistently moist but well-drained.
An ideal soil is humus-rich, loose, and slightly acidic, with a pH value of approximately 5.0 to 6.5. Waterlogging should be avoided, as the roots are sensitive to consistently wet soils.
Under optimal conditions, it begins to bear fruit after about 2 to 4 years, producing aromatic, yellow-orange fruits with a pleasant sweet-sour note. The plant usually reaches a height of about 2 to 4 meters and grows as a compact, evergreen shrub or small tree.
