Pecan

Pecan

(Carya illinoinensis)

The pecan nut prefers a sunny, warm, and sheltered location in a temperate to subtropical climate. It requires regular watering, especially during dry periods, with the soil remaining consistently moist but well-drained.

Ideally, the soil should be deep, nutrient-rich, and well-drained, with a slightly acidic to neutral pH of around 5.5 to 7.0. Waterlogging should be avoided, as the roots are sensitive.

Under optimal conditions, it begins to bear fruit after about 6 to 10 years, producing the well-known oil-rich nuts. The tree usually reaches a height of about 10 to 25 meters and develops a broad, spreading crown.
