Carnation

(Syzygium aromaticum)

The clove prefers a semi-shady, warm, and very humid location. It is sensitive to frost and only grows reliably in tropical climates.

The soil should be humus-rich, loose, and well-draining. A slightly acidic pH value (approx. 5.5–6.5) is ideal. The plant requires consistent moisture; waterlogging should be avoided.

The plant grows as an evergreen tree and usually reaches 8 to 15 meters in height.
It is primarily valued as a spice and utility plant for its dried flower buds (cloves).
