Marula
(Sclerocarya birrea)
The marula prefers a full sun, warm, and rather dry location in a tropical to subtropical climate (savanna climate). It is drought-resistant but frost-sensitive when young.
The soil should be sandy to loamy, very well-drained, and rather nutrient-poor to moderately nutrient-rich. A neutral to slightly alkaline pH value between approximately 6.5 and 8.0 is ideal; it does not tolerate waterlogging.
The plant grows as a medium to large tree, usually reaching 10 to 18 meters in height. It typically bears its first fruit after about 5 to 8 years under good conditions.
