Mangosteen

The mangosteen prefers a very warm, semi-shady to sunny, and extremely humid location in a tropical climate. It is extremely sensitive to frost and reacts poorly to drought stress.

The soil should be deep, rich in humus, and very well-drained. A slightly acidic pH value between about 5.0 and 6.5 is ideal, consistently high soil moisture is important, but waterlogging should still be avoided.

The plant grows as a slow-growing, evergreen tree and usually reaches 6 to 20 meters in height. It typically bears its first fruits after about 7 to 12 years under good conditions.
