The almond tree prefers a sunny, warm, and as dry as possible location with good air circulation. It requires regular watering during the establishment phase and during prolonged dry periods but does not tolerate waterlogging.
An ideal soil is loose, deep, and well-drained, with a slightly acidic to neutral pH value of about 6.0 to 7.5. Calcareous soils are generally well tolerated.
Under optimal conditions, it begins to bear fruit after about 3 to 5 years, developing the well-known almonds in a velvety fruit husk. The tree typically reaches a height of about 4 to 8 meters and forms a broad, loosely structured crown.
