Mamey
(Pouteria sapota)
The mamey prefers a sunny, warm, and sheltered location in a tropical to subtropical climate. It is sensitive to frost and requires stable warmth year-round.
The soil should be deep, rich in humus, and well-draining. A slightly acidic to neutral pH value between approximately 5.5 and 7.0 is ideal; regular moisture is preferred, and waterlogging should be avoided.
The plant grows into a large tree, usually reaching 10 to 20 meters in height. It typically bears its first fruits after about 5 to 8 years under good conditions.
