Macadamia
(Macadamia integrifolia)
The macadamia prefers a warm, sunny to partially shaded and wind-protected location in a subtropical climate. It requires regular watering, especially during dry periods, with the soil needing to be consistently moist but well-drained.
An ideal soil is deep, humus-rich, and slightly acidic with a pH value of about 5.0 to 6.5. Waterlogging should be avoided, as the roots are sensitive to excessive moisture.
Under optimal conditions, it begins to bear fruit after about 4 to 7 years, producing the well-known, oil-rich nuts. The tree usually reaches a height of about 8 to 15 meters and develops a dense, evergreen canopy.
