Loofah

The luffa prefers a sunny, warm, and sheltered location. It is very heat-loving and sensitive to frost.

The soil should be loose, humus-rich, and well-drained. A slightly acidic to neutral pH (approx. 5.5–6.5) is ideal. The plant requires regular watering, but waterlogging should be avoided.

The plant grows as a fast-climbing vine and can reach several meters in length, thus requiring a climbing aid. It is valued primarily for its edible young fruits and the use of its mature fibers as a natural sponge.
