Lotus

The lotus prefers a sunny, warm, and very humid location in still or slow-moving waters. It is frost-sensitive and thrives best in tropical to subtropical climates.

The substrate should be nutrient-rich, clayey to muddy, and permanently wet. A slightly acidic to neutral pH value between approximately 6.0 and 7.5 is ideal; standing water is required, not waterlogging in the classical sense, as it grows aquatically.

The plant grows from rhizomes and forms large floating leaves. Depending on conditions, it reaches about 0.5 to 1.5 meters above the water surface. The seeds and rhizomes can be used after approximately 1 to 2 years.
