Light nut
(Aleurites moluccanus)
The candlenut tree prefers a warm, sunny to semi-shady location in a tropical to subtropical climate. It requires regular watering, especially during the establishment phase, but can tolerate short dry periods later on.
An ideal soil is deep, humus-rich, and well-draining, with a slightly acidic to neutral pH of approximately 5.5 to 7.0. Waterlogging should be avoided as it can impair root growth.
Under optimal conditions, it begins to bear fruit after about 3 to 5 years, developing oil-rich nuts. The tree usually reaches a height of about 10 to 20 meters and forms a broad, spreading canopy.
