Coconut
(Cocos nucifera var. nana)
The coconut prefers a full sun, warm, and frost-free location in tropical to subtropical climates. It requires regular watering and high humidity, with the soil needing to be consistently moist but well-drained.
An ideal soil is loose, sandy to humus-rich with good drainage and a pH of approximately 5.5 to 8.0. Thanks to its adaptability, it also thrives in coastal regions with slightly saline soils.
Under optimal conditions, it begins to bear fruit after about 3 to 5 years and regularly produces coconuts. The palm usually reaches a height of about 5 to 12 meters, making it significantly more compact than the common coconut palm.
