Saba Plantain
(Musa acuminata balbisiana)
The plantain prefers a warm, sunny to semi-shady, and wind-protected location. It requires high humidity and should be watered regularly, with the soil needing to be consistently moist but well-drained.
An ideal soil is rich in humus, nutrient-rich, and very well-drained, with a slightly acidic to neutral pH value of approximately 5.5 to 7.0. Regular organic fertilization promotes vigorous growth and high yields.
Under optimal conditions, it begins to bear fruit after about 1.5 to 3 years, producing large, starchy plantains. The plant typically reaches a height of about 3 to 6 meters and forms strong, robust pseudostems.
