Caviar Lime
(Citrus australasica)
The caviar lime prefers a warm, sunny to partially shaded and sheltered location, ideally with high humidity. It should be watered regularly, keeping the soil evenly moist but very well-drained.
An ideal soil is loose, humus-rich, and well-draining with a slightly acidic pH of about 5.5 to 6.5. Waterlogging must be avoided at all costs, as the fine roots are sensitive.
Under optimal conditions, it begins to bear fruit after about 3 to 5 years, forming the characteristic "lime pearls" inside the fruits. The plant usually reaches a height of about 2 to 4 meters and grows as a slow-growing, thorny shrub or small tree.
