Cape Honeysuckle
(Tecoma capensis)
Cape honeysuckle prefers a sunny to semi-shady, warm, and sheltered location in subtropical to mild tropical climates. It is moderately frost-tolerant and can withstand short, light freezes, often sprouting again afterward.
The soil should be loose, humus-rich, and well-drained. A slightly acidic to neutral pH value between approximately 5.5 and 7.0 is ideal; regular moisture is preferred, but waterlogging should be avoided.
The plant grows as a densely branched shrub or climbing shrub and typically reaches 1.5 to 4 meters in height (or more with support). It is particularly valued for its bright orange-red, tubular flowers.
