Java plum

Java plum

(Syzygium cumini)

The Jambolan plum prefers a sunny to semi-shady, warm and sheltered location in a tropical to subtropical climate. It is sensitive to frost and grows best with consistent warmth and high humidity.

The soil should be deep, rich in humus, and well-draining. A slightly acidic to neutral pH value between approximately 5.5 and 7.0 is ideal; regular moisture is preferred, but waterlogging should be avoided.

The plant grows as an evergreen tree and usually reaches 10 to 20 meters in height. It typically bears its first fruits after about 4 to 7 years under good conditions.
