Jacaranda

Jacaranda

(Jacaranda mimosifolia)

The jacaranda prefers a sunny, warm, and sheltered location. It is thermophilic and only slightly frost-tolerant; young plants should be protected from cold.

The soil should be loose, deep, and well-drained. A slightly acidic to neutral pH value between approximately 5.5 and 7.0 is ideal. The plant tolerates dry periods well; waterlogging should be avoided.

The plant grows as a medium to large deciduous tree and usually reaches 8 to 15 meters in height, and even more under ideal conditions.

It is primarily valued for its striking blue-violet, bell-shaped flowers in spring and summer.
