Black mint
(Mexican Marigold)
The Huacatay prefers a location that is in full sun, warm, and rather dry. It is very robust, heat-tolerant, and relatively drought-tolerant.
The soil should be loose, nutrient-rich, and well-draining. A neutral to slightly alkaline pH value (approx. 6.0–7.5) is ideal. Waterlogging should be avoided.
The plant grows as an annual to short-lived perennial and can reach a height of 1 to 2.5 meters. It is particularly valued in South American cuisine for its intense aroma as a traditional spice and medicinal plant.
