Hydrangea

Hydrangeas prefer a semi-shady to shady, sheltered location in a temperate to mild subtropical climate. Depending on the species, they are quite frost-hardy, but young shoots can be sensitive to late frosts.

The soil should be humus-rich, loose, and consistently moist. A slightly acidic to acidic pH value between approximately 4.5 and 6.0 is ideal (for some species, it also affects flower color); waterlogging should be avoided, but drought is poorly tolerated.

The plant grows as a shrub and usually reaches a height of 1 to 3 meters. It is particularly valued for its large, decorative flower heads.
