Heliconia psittacorum

Heliconia psittacorum prefers a sunny to semi-shady, warm, and very sheltered location in a tropical climate. It is sensitive to frost and grows best in high humidity.

The soil should be humic, loose, and well-drained. A slightly acidic pH between about 5.5 and 6.5 is ideal, consistent moisture is preferred, and waterlogging should be avoided.

The plant grows herbaceous and usually reaches a height of 0.5 to 1.5 meters. It is primarily valued for its striking, colorful inflorescences.
