Rubber tree
(Rubber Fig)
The rubber tree prefers a bright to semi-shady, warm, and sheltered location. It is sensitive to frost and is suitable as a houseplant or for sheltered locations in tropical and subtropical climates.
The soil should be humus-rich, loose, and well-draining. A slightly acidic to neutral pH value between approximately 5.5 and 7.0 is ideal. Consistent, moderate moisture is preferred; waterlogging should be avoided.
The plant grows as an evergreen tree and can reach a height of 10 to 30 meters outdoors, but usually remains significantly smaller in cultivation. It is primarily valued for its large, shiny, decorative leaves.
The white milky sap can cause skin irritation and is slightly toxic to humans and pets if ingested.
