Gendarussa

The Gendarussa prefers a semi-shady to sunny, warm, and sheltered location. It is sensitive to frost and grows best in tropical to subtropical climates.

The soil should be loose, humus-rich, and well-drained. A slightly acidic to neutral pH (approx. 5.5–6.5) is ideal. The plant requires regular watering; waterlogging should be avoided.

The plant grows as a shrub and usually reaches a height of 1 to 3 meters.
It is primarily valued for its traditional use as a medicinal and utility plant.
