Prickly Pear Cactus

The prickly pear cactus prefers a full-sun, very warm, and dry location. It is extremely heat and drought tolerant and ideal for arid to subtropical regions.
The soil should be very well-drained, sandy to stony, and poor to moderately rich in nutrients. A neutral to slightly alkaline pH value between approximately 6.5 and 8.0 is ideal; it does not tolerate waterlogging.
The plant grows as a succulent cactus and can reach 1 to 5 meters in height, sometimes spreading wider. It usually bears its first fruits after about 2 to 4 years under good conditions.
