Figs prefer a sunny, warm, and sheltered location. They are relatively drought and heat tolerant and are well suited for Mediterranean to subtropical climates.

The soil should be loose, sandy-loamy, and well-draining. A slightly alkaline to neutral pH value between approximately 6.0 and 7.5 is ideal; waterlogging should be avoided.

The plant grows as a shrub or small tree and usually reaches a height of 3 to 6 meters. It typically bears its first fruits after about 2 to 3 years under good conditions.
