Gentian bush
(Solanum rantonnetii)
The gentian bush prefers a sunny to partially shaded, warm and sheltered location. It is sensitive to frost and is usually kept as a potted plant in cooler regions.
The soil should be loose, rich in humus, and well-draining. A slightly acidic to neutral pH value between approximately 5.5 and 7.0 is ideal; consistent moisture is preferred, but waterlogging should be avoided.
The plant grows as a shrub and usually reaches 1 to 3 meters in height. It produces small, inedible fruits and is primarily valued for its purple flowers.
