The Medjool date prefers a full-sun, very warm and dry location in an arid to subtropical climate. It is very heat-tolerant but susceptible to frost.
The soil should be sandy to loamy, very well-drained, and rather nutrient-poor to moderately nutrient-rich. A slightly alkaline to neutral pH value between approximately 7.0 and 8.0 is ideal, and waterlogging is not tolerated.
The palm can grow 10 to 25 meters tall and has a slow to medium growth rate. It typically bears its first fruits after about 5 to 8 years under good conditions.
