Star fruit
(Averrhoa carambola)
The carambola prefers a sunny to semi-shady, warm and sheltered location in a tropical to subtropical climate. It is sensitive to frost and requires consistent warmth.
The soil should be rich in humus, loose, and well-draining. A slightly acidic to neutral pH value between approximately 5.5 and 6.5 is ideal, consistent moisture is preferred, and waterlogging should be avoided.
The plant grows as a small to medium-sized tree and usually reaches 3 to 10 meters in height. It typically bears its first fruits after about 2 to 4 years under good conditions.
