Caladium

Caladiums prefer a bright to semi-shady, warm, and very sheltered location without direct sunlight. They are sensitive to frost and grow best in high humidity.

The soil should be loose, humus-rich, and very well-drained. A slightly acidic pH value between approximately 5.5 and 6.5 is ideal. Consistent moisture is preferred, but waterlogging must be avoided at all costs, as the tubers are sensitive.

The plant grows from tubers and forms large, thin, often colorfully patterned leaves. It usually reaches a height of 30 to 60 cm, depending on the variety. It is valued primarily for its strikingly colored and decorative leaves, rather than its flowers.
