Imperial Bromeliad

Imperial Bromeliad

(Alcantarea imperialis)

The Imperial Bromeliad prefers a full-sun to bright, warm, and very sheltered location. It is sensitive to frost but tolerates more sun than many other bromeliads and grows best in a consistently warm climate.

The soil should be very loose, mineral to humus-rich, and extremely well-draining. A slightly acidic to neutral pH value between approximately 5.5 and 6.5 is ideal. The plant primarily absorbs water through its leaf rosette, so this should be regularly filled with clean water, while the root area remains only slightly moist. Waterlogging must be avoided.

The plant grows as a very large, imposing bromeliad with rosette-shaped leaves and can reach over 1.5 meters in height and several meters in width. It is particularly valued for its gigantic, silvery-green leaf rosette and its spectacular appearance.
