Blue Tillandsia
(Pink Quill)
The Blue Tillandsia prefers a bright to semi-shady, warm, and very sheltered location without direct, strong midday sun. It is sensitive to frost and requires high humidity.
The soil plays hardly any role, as it is usually cultivated epiphytically (mounted). Good air circulation and a very loose, airy environment are important. Watering is done more via misting or careful watering of the leaf rosette; waterlogging must be avoided.
The plant grows as a small bromeliad and usually reaches a height of 20 to 40 cm. It forms a striking, often pink to violet-colored flower spike with blue flowers. It is particularly valued for its exotic, long-lasting flowers and its decorative rosette.
