Butterfly pea

The butterfly pea prefers a sunny, warm, and sheltered location in tropical to subtropical climates. It is sensitive to frost and grows best with consistently high temperatures.

The soil should be loose, humusy to sandy, and well-draining. A slightly acidic to neutral pH value between approximately 5.5 and 7.0 is ideal. Regular moisture is preferred, but waterlogging should be avoided.

The plant grows as a fast-climbing vine and reaches several meters in length. It produces edible young pods and is also used as an ornamental and medicinal plant, especially because of its intensely blue flowers.
