Bladder Senna
(Goldenrain tree)
The goldenrain tree prefers a full-sun, warm, and sheltered location. It is very heat-tolerant and quite frost-hardy, making it suitable for temperate to subtropical climates.
The soil should be loose, well-draining, and rather nutrient-poor to moderately nutrient-rich. A neutral to slightly alkaline pH value between approximately 6.0 and 7.5 is ideal. The plant copes well with drought; waterlogging should be avoided.
The plant grows as a small to medium-sized deciduous tree and usually reaches 6 to 12 meters in height, sometimes a little more depending on the location.
It is primarily valued for its yellow flower panicles in summer and its striking, "bladder-like" fruit capsules in autumn.
