Natal Wild Banana
(Strelitzia nicolai)
The tree strelitzia prefers a full sun to partial shade, warm and sheltered location. It is sensitive to frost and grows best in tropical to subtropical climates or as a large container plant.
The soil should be loose, humus-rich, and well-draining. A slightly acidic to neutral pH value between approximately 5.5 and 7.0 is ideal. Consistent, moderate moisture is preferred, and waterlogging should be avoided.
The plant grows as a large, banana-like perennial with a woody stem and can reach a height of 2 to 10 meters. It is mainly valued for its very large, decorative leaves and spectacular flowers.
All parts of the plant are mildly toxic to humans and pets if ingested.
