Barbados Gooseberry

The Barbados gooseberry prefers a sunny, warm, and sheltered location. It is very heat and drought tolerant, but sensitive to frost.

The soil should be loose, humus-rich to sandy, and very well-drained. A slightly acidic to neutral pH value (approx. 5.5–6.5) is ideal. The plant requires only moderate water; waterlogging should be avoided.

The plant grows as a fast-growing, climbing shrub with thorny shoots and can reach several meters in length.

It is mainly valued for its edible leaves and fruits, as well as its hardiness.
