Azalea

The azalea prefers a semi-shady to shady location with a cool, evenly moist climate. It is sensitive to strong heat and direct midday sun.

The soil should be rich in humus, loose, and very well-drained. A distinctly acidic pH value between about 4.5 and 5.5 is ideal; it does not tolerate lime.

Depending on the variety, the plant grows as a small shrub and usually reaches 0.5 to 2 meters in height. It develops its striking flowers in spring.
