Description

Origin
The Rubber Plant, scientifically known as Ficus elastica, is a species of plant in the Moraceae family. Originally, the Rubber Plant is native to the tropical rainforests of South and Southeast Asia, especially from India and Indonesia. Nowadays, due to its attractive leaves and hardiness, the Rubber Plant is cultivated as an ornamental plant worldwide.

Growth, Appearance, and Characteristics
It is an evergreen tree with a sturdy trunk and large, glossy leaves. The leaves are oval to elongated, leathery, and dark green in color. Depending on the variety, leaf color can vary from dark green to green with reddish or yellowish spots. The size of the crown varies with age and care conditions, but the Rubber Plant can reach a considerable height of up to 30 meters when grown outdoors.

Cultivation and Care
It prefers a bright location with indirect sunlight. Direct sunlight can cause leaf burns. The plant requires well-draining soil and should be watered regularly but moderately. Waterlogging should be avoided as it can lead to root rot. The Rubber Plant is relatively easy to care for and tolerates a variety of conditions, including dry indoor air.

Use
It is commonly grown as a houseplant in homes, offices, and other indoor spaces. Due to its attractive appearance and air-purifying properties, it is often used for decorating and improving the indoor environment. In tropical regions, the Rubber Plant is also grown outdoors as a shade tree and ornamental plant in parks and gardens.

Pollination
The Rubber Plant produces inconspicuous flowers followed by small, inconspicuous fruits. Pollination primarily occurs through tiny insects like mosquitoes and thrips that visit the flowers to collect nectar. Indoors, pollination usually does not occur as the conditions for fruit production are not ideal.
