Description

Appearance and Origin
The Cape Honeysuckle (Tecomaria capensis) is an attractive evergreen climbing plant from the Bignoniaceae family. Originally hailing from South Africa, where it is native to coastal areas and mountains, the plant is known for its vibrant orange to red flowers and glossy foliage. Due to its beauty and versatility, it can be found in many warm climates worldwide and is commonly cultivated in gardens and landscaping.

Growth & Blooming Period
It’s a fast-growing climbing plant that can reach heights of up to 3-5 meters. It forms dense, branching tendrils and can quickly cover walls, fences, and pergolas. The blooming period extends from spring to autumn, with the plant able to bloom year-round in mild climates. The flowers of the Cape Honeysuckle are trumpet-shaped and brightly orange to red, making them an attractive choice for garden landscaping.

Cultivation and Care
Cape Honeysuckle prefers a sunny location with well-drained soil. However, it also tolerates partial shade and can thrive in various soil types as long as they are not too wet. The plant requires regular watering, especially during dry periods, to promote healthy growth and abundant blooming. Occasional pruning after the flowering season helps to control the shape and promote growth.

Pollination
The flowers are primarily pollinated by bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds attracted by their rich nectar and vibrant color. The plant produces a large amount of pollen to encourage pollination and forms small seeds after successful pollination, which are spread by birds.
