The star apple prefers a sunny to partially shaded, warm and sheltered location in tropical to subtropical climates. It is sensitive to frost and requires consistently high temperatures and high humidity.
The soil should be rich in humus, deep, and well-draining. A slightly acidic to neutral pH value between approximately 5.5 and 6.5 is ideal; regular moisture is preferred, but waterlogging should be avoided.
The plant grows as an evergreen tree and typically reaches 8 to 20 meters in height. It usually bears its first fruits after about 4 to 6 years under good conditions.
