Santa Rita / Bougainvillea
(Bougainvillea)
Bougainvillea prefers a fully sunny, warm, and very sheltered location. It tolerates heat and drought but is sensitive to frost.
The soil should be loose, sandy to loamy, and very well-drained. A slightly acidic to neutral pH value between approximately 5.5 and 7.0 is ideal. The plant copes well with little water; waterlogging should absolutely be avoided.
The plant grows as a strongly vining or bushy climber and can reach several meters in height (significantly taller with a climbing aid). The colorful bracts are not the true flowers, which are small and inconspicuous.
It is valued primarily for its very intense, colorful "floral display" in pink, red, orange, or white.
