Wild thyme

Breckland thyme prefers a fully sunny, warm, and dry location with good air circulation. It requires only minimal watering and is very drought-tolerant once established. Waterlogging should be avoided at all costs.

Ideally, it needs loose, very well-drained, and rather nutrient-poor soil with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH value of about 6.0 to 8.0. Soil that is too moist or heavy can quickly lead to root rot.

The aromatic leaves and young shoots can be used as a spice. During flowering, the thyme produces numerous small pink to violet flowers, which serve as a valuable source of food for bees and other pollinators. It usually reaches a height of about 5 to 15 cm and grows as a creeping, evergreen ground cover, making it excellent for herb gardens, rock gardens, and as a border for garden beds.
