Velvet Sage

Velvet sage prefers a full sun, warm, and sheltered location in a subtropical to mild tropical climate. It is only slightly frost-tolerant and should be protected from cold temperatures.

The soil should be loose, humus-rich, and well-draining. A slightly acidic to neutral pH value between about 5.5 and 7.0 is ideal, regular but moderate moisture is preferred, and waterlogging should be avoided.

The plant grows as a bushy perennial and usually reaches 1 to 1.5 meters in height, sometimes a little more. It is primarily valued for its velvety-looking, purple and white flower spikes.
